FRANCE ROY
I was born in Quebec and pursued a degree in education before moving to Alberta, where I taught elementary school for five years. My journey then took me abroad for over 20 years, living in Oregon, Connecticut, and the United Arab Emirates, before returning to Canada in 2016. Now based in Nanoose Bay, I am constantly inspired by the region’s breathtaking landscapes and outdoor lifestyle.
Art has always been a part of my life. My mother was an artist, and I grew up in a home where creative projects were constantly in motion. However, I didn’t fully immerse myself in painting until one of my daughters had to prepare for a school art exhibition. Supporting her through that process led me to explore acrylic painting, and I quickly became fascinated by the endless possibilities of acrylic pouring techniques.
A turning point in my artistic journey came just before the pandemic when I traveled to Toronto and discovered the work of Mike Hammer. His blob technique immediately captivated me, and upon returning home, I began experimenting with it, refining and evolving my own approach.
I create under the name Bulle de France, a name that took shape during the pandemic lockdown. In that period of isolation, I found myself in a creative “bubble”—a space of deep exploration and artistic growth. The name also reflects the nature of my work, as the blobs themselves resemble bubbles, making the connection irresistible.
Since then, I have continued to push the boundaries of my technique, creating vibrant, textured pieces that invite the viewer into a world of movement, depth, and color.
